I wish all you I love could be sitting here with me...It is four in the afternoon and all day I have been so hot. The sun beats down on our little concrete enclosed townhome like a spot on the sun, but by chance I happened out onto our little patio this afternoon. At this time of day the patio is shaded by the apartments behind us. The breeze blows in softly over the stucco walls and our little herb garden adds a bit of spice to the air. Gideon is lying on a blanket in the middle of the table pushing up on his arms, resting his head back on the table and then pretending to be an airplane. Jaakan is perched next to me on her little red stool coloring and struggling to get all of the sylables out to "More banana, please," when she decides she is hungry. Now that the banana is gone, she seems content to sniff the peel.

I seem to be an unthankful wretch recently, discontent with myself and just about everthing around me. So, in a effort to give my heart some practice at being thankful, as a direct tribute to my good God and provider and in honor of Court who writes incredible lists of thanksgiving; here is my September list.

1. My bed. Such a wonderful place of rest and comfort!
2. The quiet community that contains our home.
3. All of my needs are within walking distance.
4. My comfy lumbering vehicle that fits all my strollers, surfboards and friends.
5. The feel of Jaakan's hugs.
6. Gideon's nature that smiles at the world.
7. Jaakan's thankful heart.
8. My David's strength.
9. David's compassion and patience.
10. Angella's willingness to drive.
11. Kyle's persevenence with the Chevy.
12. Rachel's job.
13. The idea of the YMCA.
14. Belly Dancing.
15. Holly __________ Carlson.
16. My stroller.
17. The absoluteness of God.
18. God's Word which remains and is powerful, despite me and my laziness.
19. To be a wife and mother.
20. Passion.

More to come, hopefully from a heart that overflows with thanksgiving!

UPDATE: Jaakan is now walking and continues to increase in her understanding. It is our prayer that she will one day recognize her sin and in repentence turn to the cross of Christ where true salvation lives. On that day and all the days after, will she be able to fufill her created purpose to glorify and enjoy her Creator.

Whether that is true or not, I have no idea.

But, I will tell you...

In the weeks before the birth of Gideon, I painted two rooms, rearranged all of the dishes and all of the cupboards, and was almost inspired to steam clean my rugs and carpet.

Just a final note...when I say "I" painted two rooms, what I really mean is "Rachel did the hard stuff and I supervised".

Thanks to Sarah and Amy for the bountiful dinner of yummy chicken and potatoes! The strawberries that accompanied dinner were spectacular and Jaakan demolished the watermelon into her face, clothes and the counter.

The Saga of the Double Plunge!

After graciously doing the majority of the dishes, Randy and Tim arrived at an insurmountable road block, when both sinks clogged simultaneously and would only drain into one another.

My truly handy husband rushed to their aid.

But his single handed plunging was not enough, and so the Double Plunge was brought to life.

Finally after evaluating the drainage opinions of the entire room, Randy T. laid hands on the sink and gunk and water drained away.

Possibly this ending disappointed the several men who were hoping for a late night Home Depot run and indepth plumbing problem solving mission.

Thanks anyway, for the smiles, laughs and plunger humor!

Dinner with the O Line

After the defeat at Mission Bowl 2008, the Offensive Line (coached by my lovely husband) joined us for celebratory anyway dinner of 3 pans of Mac and Cheese, 1 crockpot of Chili, 2 loaves of Bread, 1 bowl of Salad and a ton of cheese, butter and sour cream!

After 1 ton of men resting on the Love Sac, it was Apple Pie and Ice Cream time.

While the rest of us lounged in the living room, Randy T got busy washing the dishes white man's style.

Soon Tim Nieh came to be helpful, but apparently my kitchen was not meant for two sets of such broad shoulders.

Read on for the near tragic ending of the evening.

Women's Mission Bowl 2008

After months of practice, training and sore muscles the LBC women's football team had their chance to shine! A long day of tournament football ended with Lighthouse on top, sealing the championship into a victory! College girls wore black paint under thier eyes, mother's nursed their babies between plays and everyone came with their game faces on. One of the referees was a particularly attractive 6'0 male with poofy sideburns. When the play got dull, his very presence made the visual aspects of the game quite pleasing. So...here's to hot refs and tough, little asian girls!

9 days until V-day.

Hmmm? Has Mr. Nelsen put the appropriate planning into the big evening? We'll see...

Well, I think those are all I am looking forward to for a while.
